TORONTO - Ontario's prohibition on pit bulls is unreasonable, unworkable and unfair, members of all parties in the legislature said Thursday as they passed a private member's bill urging the Liberals to lift the breed-specific ban.
Progressive Conservative Randy Hillier, who owns two dogs he said could be seized and destroyed under the Dog Owner's Liability Act, said the ban was introduced because of what he called a very few high profile dog attacks, mostly in the Toronto area.

Hillier said Tuesday that Premier Dalton McGuinty should not resume funding to the Labourers’ International Union of North America Local 183 training fund until its board of union and management trustees “cleans up” operations and become more accountable.
“There shouldn’t be any funding from any ministries to an organization like this that has shown such a cavalier attitude and disrespect to its members and the public,” Hillier said in an interview. “The government should be loath to continue funding a centre where there is a clear lack of accountability and money is being spent inappropriately.”

EMC Smiths Falls - Unions launch campaign to stop hospital cuts
EMC News - The unions fighting the cutbacks at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital have started a postcard campaign aimed at MPP Randy Hillier.
"We want everyone we know to sign them," said John Jackson, president of CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) local 2119, which represents hospital workers at both sites, during a press conference at the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Smiths Falls on Thursday, Nov. 22.
