Eliminate the Drive Clean Program

The Drive Clean Program was introduced a decade ago to address one of the leading causes of smog in Ontario at that time; vehicle exhaust. After 10 years, vehicle exhaust is no longer a significant source of pollution. Even the founder of the program says it has run its course. It's time to end this expensive program that has out-run its purpose.

A Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario

WHEREAS the the Auditor General specifically warned the government to delay implementation of the new Drive Clean test to ensure technical testing was completed and problems were resolved;

AND WHEREAS the AG also recommended that due to modern improvements in vehicles and fuels vehicle emissions are no longer a major contributor to smog in Ontario and this program be phased out;

AND WHEREAS  the fail rate for vehicles through this new system has skyrocketed due to the shortcoming of the test itself and not emissions problems with the vehicle, making Drive Clean nothing more than a tax grab for the government;

WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows: That the government of Ontario eliminate the Drive Clean Program.

    The new system almost guarantees a failure for older vehicles…

    The explanation I heard was that not enough cars were failing and they were finding it difficult to justify their existence…so, invent a new way to fail more vehicles and increase the importance of the program…hence, relying on an unreliable on board computer system…

    this would be great , I just wonder sometimes how much money is spent on one car from its beginning to end , with e tests, taxes each time it is sold ,and so on ..

    As someone who works for a car dealership and sees the frustration and confusion this has caused, I ask that this STOP. Everyday I see good people, who are just trying to get by, upset because their only means of getting to work will not pass this new test. It is not fair, it is not right and it is enough already. We can save the planet another way.

    I think when this program was legislated, it should have been across the province. It is ridiculous, to pay in to a program, that is neighbors, to a county that isn’t legislated to do the same. Why must some of us work at keeping out air clean, when the neighbor isn’t. Our air is not contained, and yes, every little bit helps. However, as my Grandparents use to say, What is good for the Goose, is good for the Gander~ If we want to see real change!!! ;) Thanks and regards, Terri Schmidt.
