Long Wait for a Short Pier

January 6, 2014
(PERTH) – MPP Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington) expressed his satisfaction that the much anticipated and long awaited service improvements for the Amherst Island Ferry finally appear to have anchors aweigh.
“For the longest time it looked like this much needed improvement was going to be left high and dry, but it finally appears we’re making some headway,” remarked Hillier. “I’ve advocated for a drive-on/drive-off ferry for the Island with a number of different Ministers since first being elected in ‘07, and I am pleased to see the Ministry of Transportation finally has this project in the offing.”
On December 31, the MTO made available for public review the Transportation Environmental Study Report for the project; the public has until February 4th to provide comments or questions to the Ministry.

"It is abundantly clear that the present side-loading ferry and dockage is an impediment to the growth and prosperity of all Amherst Islanders'. I encourage everyone to evaluate the proposals and express their views and support and also thank all those Islanders whose persistent advocacy has helped me make this need apparent to Queen's Park."
“Hopefully it will now be plain sailing to the completion of this much needed improvement,” quipped Hillier.

Thanks, Randy. We will certainly look into it. Do find it curious in this day that material of this nature is only available for view in paper form and not online as with almost everything else of this nature.
