Broadband Expansion Petition

Make your voices heard, on rural broadband expansion.

Based on my survey of residents earlier this year I am astonished that 93% of households in my riding do not meet the minimum standard for internet service and over half pay between $150-$300 per month for their services.

A Petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario – BROADBAND EXPANSION

WHEREAS  access to affordable and effective internet service is a necessity, not a luxury, in the 21st century; AND

WHEREAS 93% respondents to Randy Hillier’s 2019 riding internet survey reported not having the minimum standard of internet service; AND

WHEREAS half of the respondents reported paying between $150-$300 a month for inadequate service;

WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
That the Government of Ontario, through the appropriate Ministries, work immediately to address the barriers to broadband expansion in rural and remote Ontario, including delays caused by Hydro One’s pole attachment process and fees, as well and obstacles imposed by the Ontario Energy Board and other policies that are restricting the expansion of affordable and effective broadband in our communities.
